Once a user earns Weather Master status through reports, their confirmation from the ground edits the raw radar pixels before they reach the cell detection algorithm. If a master confirms hail where the radar sees none, the algorithm sees it too and the alerts follow. The radar image you see on the map stays untouched.
WeatherAlarm did not appear last year. The first sketches date from 2010 and the first Android version was released in February 2012. Since then a simple idea, working out from radar images where the rain is heading, has grown into a system with its own algorithms, path forecasting and reports from users.
